Boxing is a passionate sport that harnesses violence and converts it into a polished game for entertainment and Andre Ward is one of the greatest boxers America has ever seen. He competed at the pinnacle of the sport from 2004 to 2017 and retired undefeated in 2017. André was passionate about the sport and was just as successful. Since we already know the American boxer Andre Ward, let’s discover other aspects of his life.

Andre Ward Biography (Age)

Andre was born to Frank Ward (Irish American) and Madeline Ward (African American) on February 24, 1984 in San Francisco. At school, Andre was very good at sports, especially football, which really appealed to the scouts as they sought his commitment to their colleges. However, Andre already had a thing for boxing and decided to go for it.

Andre has not only proven that he has the raw talents for the sport, but he has also put in the required hours of training. He worked so hard that he even started fighting some teenage boxers in the King’s Gym himself, but unfortunately that wasn’t enough to secure him victory in his amateur match at the age of 10. Defeat broke young André’s heart; he didn’t let it weigh him down. Instead, he used that stumbling block as a springboard; he used rage and disappointment to keep working.

Soon a rematch has been scheduled and Ward sets out to tear down his opponent. As a teenager, he made a name for himself with his lightning-fast punches and his determination to defeat even bigger opponents. At 16, André was already the American champion in his weight class. Statistics show that in 110 matches he won 105 and lost 5. He finally dropped out of school before the end of the year to pursue his boxing career.

He started boxing in 1994 and won more than 90 amateur matches. In 2002, he won the National Under-19 Championships. In 2001 and 2003 he won the US Championship. He made his professional debut in 2004 against Christopher Malina. Since then, he has appeared in 32 matches and has a record 32 wins.

In 2017 André announced that he would retire from the MBA at the age of 33. Andrea says the vigor of the sport was starting to overwhelm his body and he couldn’t take it anymore.
