Carolyn Anderson Obituary, Omaha Community Playhouse Board Member Has Passed Away

Carolyn Anderson Obituary, Death – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn Owen Anderson, a cherished member of the OCP Board and a devoted supporter of our organization. Carolyn, the daughter of long-standing OCP advocates Ed and Dee Owen, demonstrated unwavering dedication to OCP over the years by embracing numerous productions.

One of Carolyn’s significant contributions was her collaboration with Susan Baer Collins in launching the “Playhouse Play-House” Saturday events for the Nebraska Theatre Caravan. These events brought joy and creativity to countless individuals during the winter months, featuring Caravan productions, workshops in music, dance/movement, puppets, and more, along with a delicious lunch.

In recognition of her tireless advocacy for the arts, disability rights, and unity and inclusion, Carolyn received the Governor of Nebraska’s Arts Award in 2020. Her impact extended beyond OCP as she worked passionately with several organizations, including WhyArts, BLUEBARN Theatre, Great Plains Theatre Commons, No More Empty Pots, Coordinating Neighboring Friends, Heartland Family Service, Habitat for Humanity, Tri Faith Arts Initiative, Intercultural Senior Center, Urban Abbey, and Park United Methodist Church.

Carolyn’s absence will be profoundly felt in both the OCP family and the broader Omaha community. We invite you to join us for her memorial service, which will take place at OCP next Monday, October 16, at 11 a.m. Following the service, a luncheon will be held in her honor in the Owen Lobby.

As we remember Carolyn’s remarkable contributions and enduring spirit, we extend our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones during this difficult time. Her legacy of compassion, advocacy, and commitment to the arts will continue to inspire us all.
