Louis Farrakhan bio
Loius Farrakhan was born to Louis Eugene Walcott on May 11, 1933 in the Bronx, New York, New York in the United States. He is one of two sons of Sarah Mae Manning and her husband Percival Clark. As he was growing up, Louis was trained on the violin and at the age of thirteen, young Louis started playing in different shows and concerts. He is said to have performed with the Boston College Orchestra and the Boston Civic Symphony. He also won national competitions and other shows, including the Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour
The young and talented Walcott then attended Boston Latin School and thereafter; he graduated from the English high school located in Boston. Shortly after graduation, Louis enrolled at Winston-Salem Teachers College where he earned an athletic scholarship.
After graduation, Louis Farrakhan began his musical career in the 1950s. He adopted the name Charmer with which he began recording several calypso albums. In 1955, Louis started making headlines after changing his name to Calypso Gene. He took part in several tours and gave several concerts, including his own show called Calypso Follies. His exceptional musical style made him an outstanding musician at that time. One of his songs topped the US Top 100 Billboard Music Chart for more than five consecutive years.
Nation of Islam Leadership
As he deepened in his musical career, Loius came into contact with the teachings of the Nation of Islam through his friend Rodney Smith. Smith is also a talented saxophonist from Boston. Seeing that the Nation of Islam was propagating a belief similar to that of his father, Louis quickly joined the NOI. After fulfilling the basic requirements for band membership, Louis was given the X sign indicating he became a band replacement. He was later given the name ‘Farrakhan’, which means ‘The Criterion’.
Shortly after joining the band, Louis was forced to choose between the band and his musical career. Of course, he chose the nation during his musical career. Subsequently, his popularity began to rise and he rose through the ranks of the NOI. Following Malcolm X’s transfer from the Boston Mosque, Louis was appointed official minister of the mosque by its leader Elijah Mohammad. He was also promoted to the rank of Sunni imam from 1975 to 1978.
The population of the Nation of Islam continued to increase significantly and Farrakhan contributed to this. As a representative of the nation, he has issued statements on several issues, including US war interventions in Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, among others. He was considered by many to be racist and anti-Semitic based on his controversial political comments and views.
