Mike Nelson Biography
Mike Nelson is an American meteorologist working as a chief meteorologist at Denver 7. He joined Denver 7 in June 2004 and is currently an eighteen-time Emmy award winner. He has spent 40 years forecasting the weather on television where 25 of the years he has forecasted weather in Colorado alone.
Additionally, he started working at a Madison-based private weather consulting firm, Weather Central. Later in 1979, he was appointed Executive Vice President of Weather Central where he supervised a staff of 14 meteorologists. He partnered with Terry Kelly and devised one of the first computer weather graphics systems for TV.
In 1982, he trained legendary Denver weatherman Stormy Rottman on the system after he brought it to Colorado. Later, he worked as a chief meteorologist in St. Louis, Missouri. He also approved candidates to receive the AMS Seal of Television Weather-casting. This was because he was a member of the American Meteorological Society’s Board of Broadcast Meteorology.
In addition, he was recognized in 2001 as the Citizen of the year by the Colorado Broadcasters Association. Moreover, he attended the University of Wisconsin where he pursued and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Meteorology
